Why can't the general public move the camera ?
The camera software isn't designed for this type of control. Even if it was we wouldn't
allow control. This camera can read a car tag on the waters edge so you could imagine
what could happen if pointed in the wrong direction on a beach full of famlies and
children.

Why is the camera on the pavillion at night ?
I get several e-mails a week on this subject. We put the camera there at night so that your not looking at a black picture in the evening. We usually move the camera around sunrise to either just off the pier in the winter, or just off the life guard towers in the summer. The camera is moved to the pavillion on Tuesday's during the summer at 4pm for the blue's on the beach concerts.
We try to leave the camera on the water just as long as possible before we return it to the pavillion.

Why does the camera move during the day ?
The surfing community tends to view the site in the early morning hours before 10am. If the surf is up i'll zoom the lens to let them get a good picture of the waves. We try not to keep it on the waves past 10am. This gives the general public who use the camera an opprotunity to plan their day and make good judgements about that days weather.

Why do I need the Abacast plugin ?
This plugin enables you to view the piercam stream. It's not spyware. The plugin is why your seeing the stream in a live format. Otherwise the video would have "steping" effect and loose alot of it's performance.

Why does the stream skip sometimes loading ?
It depends on your connection to the web and the activity on the servers. If your on a wireless connection it will tend to drop out due to the large amount of data being transmitted. The site see's it's highest usage before 12 noon. If it's slow to load during this time that's usually the reason why. If you still have problems just hit your re-load button.

The image is stuck in buffering.
This is usually due to a loss signal from the camera itself. Sometimes the image will buffer when the site is busy. The camera e-mails me when it goes down and we can usually have it back operational within the hour. We do the weekly updates to the camera every Sunday between 11 and 1.  You may see a loss of signal during this time.

Surf Report
Surf and Beach report from Waterboyz
Sept. 8 , 2010-6:28 am
We have a little ground swell coming in left over from Hermina. The waves are only in the knee to waist high range, but really glassy with winds out of the NE at 5 mph. The tide is coming in to a high at 10am then going out to a low at 10:15pm. The marine forecast is calling for the winds to pick up out of the E and then S by this afternoon, so get out and get some waves early if you can while it is still glassy. Pirate paddlers will meet up at 6pm across from Aloha liquors on Pensacola Beach, come out and get your paddle on. 850-433-2929.
